Sporadic
information has started to trickle down about the much-awaited stimulus
bill funds designated for Bexar County and San Antonio. According to
news reports, a large amount will be used for new construction
according to Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff. Another public official
is already suggesting that new construction is needed for the IH10 and
1604 area. Mayor Hardberger has been quoted as saying "Our number one
priority continues to be the finishing of the river."
The Lopez family who has lived in the Southside of San Antonio knows
all to well that it’s important for those that represent the Southside
to step up and claim their share of funds particularly those that will
result in job creation.
"It’s hard to find adequate parks where children can play and
families can visit,” Mr. Lopez added. The Lopez also mentioned that
parks appear to be neglected and in need of improvements and cited
Normoyle Park on Culbertson Street located in the center of Southside
San Antonio as an example of parks that should received funds.
If politicians wonder why families are leaving the Southside area and
our schools are losing students, they can come to Normoyle Park and see
the sad condition that identify our Southside, said another nearly
resident.
“What we need are citizens that can demand part of the federal funds
that can help the Southside. ” said Mr. Lopez.
